Carlos passed away on April 12, 2014 in Washington D.C. in a tragic accident. Carlos was born in Miami, Florida on December 17, 1990. When I read the news and saw his birth date I was instantly moved; Carlos was born just three days before me. He was about to graduate from The George Washington University. I see myself in the middle of this business venture, with hopes and dreams, and I imagine him with his aspirations for a life after graduation. I was shattered and I felt like we had to give back in some way.
If you can't make it tomorrow a fund has been set up in Carlos’s name at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Donations to the Carlos Pacanins Machado Fund will be used to reach out, support, and train a new generation of Latino youth in our area for leadership positions.
